Batelco, BIX Sign Accord
Batelco has signed an agreement with the Bahrain Internet Exchange to provide access to the Internet in readiness for the introduction of other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which will be operating soon in the Kingdom.

BIX is a non-profit organisation set up by the government to ensure that everyone benefits from the information available on the Internet. Competition in Bahrain’s telecommunications market provides an opportunity for BIX to expand its remit to include onward Internet connections for ISPs who have been granted licences.

The agreement was signed at the BIX at Almoayyed Tower and attended by Hani Radhi, senior manager wholesale and carrier relations and Ali Shakeeb, wholesale datacoms services manager from Batelco, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Thawadi, executive director, and Jassim Arafah Al Hassan, senior network specialist from the BIX.

In line with encouraging open and fair competition, Batelco is providing international connectivity from BIX to Teleglobe’s meet-me point so that they can sell on the connection to the internet backbone to other ISPs.

“With the agreement, we are demonstrating our commitment to responding to our obligations to facilitate competition in a timely and constructive manner,” Radhi said.
